Carol vernallis also believes that common conventions in film as a whole , such as continuity , don't apply to music videos. It has now become the norm for music videos to break continuity. Editing styles such as jump cuts, match cuts, obvious edits often take the viewer away from the scene that they are currently watching and sometimes takes them to a completely unrelated scene in a different time period.
These edits take place throughout the video and usually occur in time with the beat and rhythm of the music video.
